About the Silver Coast

Portugal has a population of 10.5 Million people and is the country Britain enjoys its oldest alliance with dating back to the late 1300’s.

Stretching from Lisbon to Fiqueira da Foz, Portugal’s Silver Coast is a largely undiscovered stretch of beautiful coastline which gets its name from the effect of the sun on the waves of the Atlantic .

Unlike the more famous Algarve coast in the south of the country on the Silver Coast you will discover pretty villages and the real Portuguese way of life with stunning coastal scenery and the best beaches in Europe. Much of this area of Portugal remains undiscovered by mass tourism so you can guarantee a beach to yourself even in the height of the Summer.

The Praia d’el Rey championship golf course and its resort sit amid the ancient, picturesque charm of medieval Óbidos whilst Hotels at Foz do Arelho offer access to the beauty of the Óbidos lagoon and the lively bars and restaurants nearby.

Lisbon is 1 hour by car or train and not to be missed. It is a beautiful city with a much deserved reputation for the warmth of its people and is recognised as one of the most cultural, sophisticated capital cities in Western Europe.
Thousands of Lisbon inhabitants have second home properties on the Silver Coast and it is testament to the beauty of the area.

Like most of Portugal the Silver Coast is made up mainly of small towns and villages; 3 million of Portugal’s population are in the two major cities of Lisbon and Porto with the rest spread across the country.

Visits to the fascinating towns and villages of the Silver Coast are mainly on empty roads and offer rich rewards. Fátima is an easy drive as are Alcobaça and Tomar. Eating out on the Silver Coast is both cheap and a pleasurable experience ; there are top-class restaurants to try as well as very reasonable restaurants. Fresh sea-food is a speciality and can be enjoyed with a chilled bottle of white from the Silver Coast region.
