'It must be a piece of the sky' said the Moors when they arrived on the Costa Blanca, a thousand years ago. Accustomed to the hot desert, they believed that his place was paradise on earth.

The Costa Blanca (White Coast) is located between the Costa Brava and Costa Azahar in the north and the Costa del Sol in the South of Spain.

The Southern Costa Blanca or White Coast as the name means, has an average of 320 days a year of sunshine and maintains an average year round temperature of 24°C. According to the World Health Organisation the area has the "healthiest climate in the world". This is caused by the combination of constant year round warm temperatures and the two huge salt lakes rich in minerals of "Laguna de la Mata" (now a conservation area) and the "Salina de San Miguel" that surround Torrevieja. The natural salt lakes dry the air, therefore reducing humidity and producing a healthy atmosphere beneficial for people who suffer with chest problems, arthritis, rheumatism etc. These lakes are also home to a host of wildlife including large flocks of Flamingos.

The Costa Blanca beaches are famous throughout Europe with long stretches of soft white sand and sparkling clear Mediterranean sea. Each boasts the European Blue Flag awarded for clean beaches and totally unpolluted water.

Most of the towns hold large traditional daily street markets and spectacular festivals and processions taking place all year around but also have the modern amenities such as newly constructed hospitals, shopping outlets and sports centres, etc.
The long sandy beaches, and the crescent bay is protected by the mountain range and provides the mild winters adored by those who live in this region. The area boosts of over 300 days of sunshine per year, and a very temperate climate with the salt lakes adding to the healthy benefits. Olive and eucalyptus trees decorate the hillsides, orange and lemon trees covers the valleys and in spring the white and pink almond blossoms decorate the orchards and hedgerows. The numerous palm tree plantations add to the skyline and give it a feel of the tropics.

The Costa Blanca’s white beaches and bays were awarded the distinguished Blue European flag. This guarantees a high standard of quality of both the water and beach cleanliness, and this award has been renewed annually as the standards set are maintained.

The beaches of the Southern Costa Blanca extend from Alicante to Torre de La Horadada. Without a doubt the most beautiful beaches are the dune beaches of Guardamar and La Mata. Further along you will find the beaches of Torrevieja bay, Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Dehesa de Campomar, San Pedro
